Meteorological Service of Canada - Atlantic
Our Mandate
  • To issue warnings of severe weather and environmental hazards to safeguard lives and property and minimize economic losses.
  • To provide support to emergency response agencies.
  • To provide meteorological and related environmental predictions and scientific information for all of the Atlantic Region.
Meteorological Service of Canada - Atlantic is the home of the Canadian Hurricane Centre, the official source of warnings of severe weather and environmental hazards for Atlantic Canada and the leading source of weather forecasts, and related scientific information. These services and support to emergency response agencies are available 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Regional weather and environmental predictions on land and at sea are the highest priority in our role as an integral component of Environment Canada - Atlantic Region and as one of the five regional offices of the Meteorological Service of Canada. National directorates of the Meteorological Service of Canada offer national guidance to regional offices. International co-operation is achieved through our membership in the World Meteorological Organization and participation in a world-wide system of well established programs and standardized practices.
